Crochet Orangutan

Hi Everyone!

Today I'm sharing pictures of an orangutan I recently crocheted.  In a previous post I featured the blog Planet June.  I loved the orangutan that June crocheted and decided to make one for myself.  Because of how complex June's orangutan is she doesn't have a pattern, so I worked out my own pattern as I went and came up with this little guy:

My orangutan measures 20 inches tall.  I used Yarn Bee for the fur and Vanna's Choice for the skin.  I hope you like him! Leave me a comment to let me know what you think!

Website of the Week

Hi Everyone!

This week I chose http://www.ohsohappytogether.blogspot.com/ for Website of the Week.  This blog is wonderful, I love all of Jessica's beautiful sewing projects!
I asked Jessica to answer a few questions, here they are with her responses.

When did you first start crafting?

My mom and grandma were always crafting and so they let me craft with them ever since I could. I would say that I really got into it when I was towards the end of college though and even more so when my daughter was born.

What is your favorite item that you've made?

My goodness. I would have to say the most favorite thing I have made are the scrappy bees for my daughter because she just adores them! She is usually sleeping with one and is always playing with them. It makes my heart very happy.

Are you working on any new projects?

Oh yes. Probably too many! I'm trying to finish my daughter's "big girl" room before baby #2 arrives. I also have some maternity outfits in the make  and plan on getting some baby stuff in the works once we find out what it is.

What kind of crafts do you enjoy?

My favorite two all time crafts are sewing and crocheting. I really enjoy messing around with embroidery and painting too. I have some things on my list to learn too, so I'm sure my crafts will expand.

Website of the Week

Hi Everyone!

This weeks Website of the Week is: http://www.planetjune.com/
I asked June, owner of the site to answer a few questions.
Here they are along with her responses:

When did you first start to crochet?
I taught myself to crochet in 2003, after I moved to Canada from the UK and found myself with a lot of time on my hands while I looked for a job. I started designing amigurumi patterns in late 2006, and haven't stopped since.

What is your favorite crochet item you've made?
My pride and joy is my life-sized crocheted baby orangutan. I spent about 100 hours designing and crocheting him over the course of a year. He still makes me smile every time I look at him! (www.planetjune.com/orang)

Are you working on any new projects?
I sadly don't have much time to crochet at the moment, as my husband and I are in the process of selling up and moving to South Africa, but I always have a few new animal designs in various stages of completion. I find my inspiration in the natural world, and I'm looking forward to being newly inspired by the South African wildlife when we finally get there.

Are there any other crafts that you enjoy besides crochet?
Aside from crochet, two of my favourite crafts are punchneedle embroidery and working with polymer clay, but I also like to dabble in a little of everything. When I have more time, I'd like to do more sewing, and experiment with needlefelting. I don't think I'll ever grow tired of crochet, though!
