Shaak Ti Costume

Hullo friends!

I got an email a couple of months ago from a lovely young lady who wanted to know if I could help her with making a crocheted Shaak Ti headdress for her Halloween costume--I was of course really, really excited! :)

She was kind enough to allow me to post pictures--didn't her headdress turned out incredible?!  I am so happy that I got to help out a bit!

And below is the finished costume--I am SO impressed!!

It looks so professional!  The attention to detail is awesome--she even remembered the dark grey fingernails!

The Force is strong with this one! ;)

Blessings! <3

Sideline Stitches!

Hi Everyone!

Grace Ann from Would You Like Yarn with That? is hosting a really clever take on crochet-alongs :)

The idea of Sideline Stitches is to crochet/knit certain project/s you choose during the NFL football season.

I don't actually watch football (I was sadly never into sports...I might enjoy watching football more if I actually knew how the game works!) but I like the idea of having a certain timeline to complete projects in!

So here is what I plan to make starting September 5th:

3 Hats
3 Scarves
3 Cowls

It doesn't sound like much, but I always put off finishing the simplest of projects, so maybe with a deadline I'll be able to!
*And as a side note, if YOU need to make a cowl, Grace also just released her first pattern for sale and it just happens to be an adorable little cowl pattern!  Check it out here.*

If you want to join in just go by Would You Like Yarn with That, and leave a comments letting Grace know! ;)
I think this should be a lot of fun!  I'll be posting progress pics once I start in September :)

--And look!  Grace even made things fancy with a button! ;)  Most impressive.

So what are you waiting for?  Join in on the fun!

Awesome Anthropologie

Hey Everyone!

Am I the only one who is completely crazy about/in love with everything Anthropologie?
That was really a rhetorical question, from all of the Anthropologie knock-off tutorials out there, it is clear that I am not the only one.

But the sad--OK, sad isn't even a strong enough word.  More like, unfortunate, heartbreaking and tragic--thing is, Anthropologie's prices are just as aw-inspiring as their items.  And by "Aw-inspiring" I mean, "Aw!  You're kidding! That shirt I like is $300?!"
So very sad.   But, nonetheless I continue to look through their items whenever new ones arrive.
So today I'm sharing some of my current favorite Anthro items so we can all cry together :)

First up is the Enchanted Button Back Dress.
I think it would work best as more of a tunic top
since it is a bit too short as a dress, but isn't it just darling?!
$288.00

Now, how can you not love this?  I love the name too.
The Elvia Dress is so pretty :)
$258.00

Palolem Shell
I love this one--don't you love the leaves around the neckline?
$68.00

Crimped Alabaster Blouse
LOVE the sleeves and shaping on this one!
Reminds me of something Eowyn would wear.
$138.00

Parted Paisley Tank
This is SO pretty!  I love the color!
$78.00

Hummingbird Poplin Skirt
 I love this!!!
$98.00
Openwork Laurel Boots
I LOVE cutout boots!  These are just adorable!
$278.00

And those are just a few of my favorite clothing items...don't even get me started on jewelry and hair accessories ;)

Which one is your favorite?

Alley Cat Scratch

Hi Everyone!

I know I mentioned the website Alley Cat Scratch in another post, so I thought I should follow up on it.

Alley Cat Scratch is a totally awesome costume research website.  The branch of the website that I am most drawn to is the section on Lord of the Rings costumes.

There is a detailed page on each costume--the construction, fabric used, reference photos, tips on how to make them, ect...  SO much great information!  They also have a HUGE section on making replicas of the costumes and accessories--even ways to fake armor and leather!  They also suggest different patterns you can buy that can be altered to work for certain costumes.  They cover just about everything!

Alley Cat Scratch is really worth checking out!

Have an awesome day! :)

The Jedi Elf Queen

Hi Everyone!

Ok, I linked to the Jedi Elf Queen in my last post, but I decided that she needed a post of her own.

Julia McGee is an absoulute genius.

Well, that pretty much sums up everything else I was going to say, but I'll add a bit more.

I discovered Julia's website via Alley Cat Scratch costuming (which is also extremely awesome, but I think it too will require a post of it's own!) and I am SO glad that I did!

Thanks to The Jedi Elf Queen, I was introduced to the idea of faux leather (see last post) as well as the idea of painting embroidery instead of actually embroidering (it looks just as good and is WAY easier!)  And you should see the things she can do with paper mache!

She also has some printable templates, tutorials and loads of other useful ideas.

So check out The Realm of the Jedielfqueen when you have a chance!

Have an awesome day!

SUPER cute scarf!

Hi Everyone!

Yes, I am still alive.  SO sorry I haven't been posting...and I forgot about last month's pattern!  I will have some new things up soon.

In other news, one of my awesome new followers Andromeda has this SUPER cute scarf pattern up on her blog that I just had to share!

I think there is still enough chill in some areas for scarves, right?  I think I would be willing to deal with the added warmth for this one.  I really love this scarf--mainly because it reminds me of something Pippin (from Lord of the Rings) would wear.  I will be making one (or 2!) for sure!

Find the Indiana Memory Scarf pattern here

Have an awesome day!

Shawls

Hi Everyone!

Every once in a while, I will have this uncontrollable obsession with shawls--I will sit for hours looking at shawl patterns, favoriting almost every one I come across on Ravelry, never being able to find that "perfect pattern" that is easy enough that I won't give up on the first round and difficult enough to keep me interested.  That is what it has been like this weekend.
So, here is a quick round-up of some of my favorites!

How can you NOT love this one?  It is f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s!

I LOVE the pineapple patterns on this shawl!  Beautiful!

I love how this capelet looks with the ribbon at the neck! So pretty!

Don't you just love openwork shawls?  I really like the edging on this one too!

This shawl is by far my favorite-- the pattern is SO amazing, isn't it?

Have an awesome week!

Fun to Craft feature

Hi Everyone!

I found the blog Fun to Craft a few months ago, and I really love it!
The tutorials are so clever, and I really like all the link parties!
I asked Stacey a few questions about crafting for this post, here are her responses:

How long have you been crafting?
I have been crafting since I was a little girl...probably too long to say!

What type of craft(s) do you usually make?
I love making home decor crafts or other crafts that make life easier. I also LOVE to sew!

What projects are you currently working on?
I am working on a number of sewing projects right now.

What do you think is your favorite project you've ever made?
Every project is my favorite while I am working on it. I think any sewing project is definitely up there on my list of faves. But my most favorite, is probably the blessing dress I made for my little girl just because of the time and sentimental value in it.

Do you sell any projects or patterns? If so, where can we find them?
I do sell patterns. I opened up Hadley Grace Designs in April 2011. I am constantly working on more boutique style clothing patterns to put out there too. Right now, you can find me at http://hadleygracedesigns.etsy.com/ or you can see a few of my favorite patterns at http://hadleygracedesigns.bigcartel.com/  I am working on getting a regular website up and going too.

Thanks for answering the questions for me, Stacey!

Courtney's Double Pocket Purse

Hi Everyone!

Today I'm sharing a picture that Courtney sent me of the Double Pocket Purse she made using my pattern, found here

Didn't she do a lovely job?  Courtney used only one front pocket and also added a flower.
If you've used any of my patterns or ideas, I would love to see pictures!
God Bless!
